Proyecto Nicaragua

Through Proyecto Nicaragua, Global Connections High School is building an ongoing relationship with the community of Balgüe on Ometepe Island, Nicaragua, by purchasing and selling coffee as a fundraising vehicle while educating local Seattle-area students and families about fair trade and global sustainability.

While in Nicaragua, participants have volunteered to plant rice with members of the collective family finca, helped staff in La Finca Magdalena prepare meals for the visitors to the hostel, made connections with the students and teachers and helped another Seattle school group install donated computers at Jaime Marza Colegio, the local school of Balgüe.

The Mother House Fund Seed Grant Program helped the students at Global Connections High School get this program off the ground, develop awareness communications within our local community, and purchase coffee while in Nicaragua.
